Project 3

Space and Sensory

For my final project, I was tasked with continuing the activity given in project 2, which was celebrating, translating it into spaces that give a sensorial experience. A model was to be created that is a 1:10 scale, and I had to make a presentation board based on the model. The main focus of designing this model was the focus on the 4 different materialty (wood, concrete, glass and steel) and how it would affect the sensorial experience of the space.

Model

My model has mainly two spaces, a walkway and another main performance room. I focused on the sensory of sound and also used natural light in my design. The word celebrate when i thought about it was when people come together to enjoy a performance or, focusing on the word 'togetherness', which was the what i wanted to 'celebrate'. The journey starts at the walkway where it s enclosed, making quite dark, with concrete slits along the path acting as a guide for the user. The walkway slowly becomes narrower as you walk, creating this claustrophobic feeling as you progress until you reach the large performance room. The contrast in size from the transition of the walkway to the performance room emphasizes the openess of the performance room and gives a sense of relief for the user. The performance room is a large enclosed room with seating and a 'stage' area for the performance. It is enclosed with concrete to allow sound to bounce of the walls to enhance to volume of the speaker on the 'stage.'

A1 Presentation Board

Orthographic drawings were drawn along with tattoo stamps to depict the sensorial experience throughout the journey of the structure. An abstract drawing based on the perspective view from the structure and finally an exploded axonometric view of the structure with details labeled. I named my design 'Crescendo' as it means from soft to loud in music, which fits the journey my design provides

Reflection

Honestly, I was dissapointed with myself in this final project. It was the most important project of the semester and I underpreformed. I was overambitious with my design, which meant it took too much time to make the model itself, thus not having enough time for the drawings. The drawings itself were complete, but nowhere near polished enough for standards. Through the crit session, I recieved criticism around my tidiness and cleanliness of my drawings, especially my writing, also the lack of detail and shadow. But I have recieved feedback about my model being well thought out and well researched, with a good narrative and sensorial journey. So in the future, I have to manage my time even better, and work on imrpoving my handwriting and drawings.
